SAHE student Rachel Pettiford worked with the Multicultural Center for Student Leadership and Engagement to present “IUP Celebrates: The Power of Education,” a panel discussion featuring Veronica Watson, Mel Jenkins, and fellow SAHE student Chandler Stafford.

Stemming from a conversation Stafford and Pettiford had in a student affairs class, the panelists discussed a range of topics, including the history of racism in higher education through policy making, performative activism, and institutional commitments to diversity. The panelists also discussed how students (specifically students of color) can use their knowledge of the past to transform their future.

The online presentation was held on February 1, 2021, for all to attend, kicking off Black History Month with a celebration of black excellence.

IUP's Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement is hosting more virtual events surrounding Black history and racial justice throughout the semester. Check out the MCSLE events page.
