Mimi Benjamin, associate professor in the Student Affairs in Higher Education Department, was an invited co-presenter for the national Virtual Learning Communities Summit on October 23, 2020.
Benjamin presented on “Engaging Students Through Living-Learning Communities Through Challenging Times” with colleagues Karen Inkelas (University of Virginia) and Jody Jessup-Anger (Marquette University).
Benjamin, Inkelas, and Jessup-Anger noted challenges faced by living-learning communities during COVID-19, highlighted why living-learning communities matter now more than ever, and identified strategies for building community in living-learning communities.
Conference sessions focused on the event's theme of “Embracing Adaptability in Learning Communities During Uncertain Times.” The conference was co-hosted by the National Learning Communities Consortium, the Learning Communities Association, and the Washington Center for Improving Undergraduate Education. Each organization typically hosts its own learning communities event, but together organized this virtual conference for 2020 due to the continued pandemic.
