Department of Safety Sciences


The Safety Sciences Department prepares individuals for careers in the safety, health, and environmental profession. The department offers a B.S. degree in Safety, Health, and Environmental Applied Sciences and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Safety Sciences.

The B.S. degree meets the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) standards as a Qualified Academic Program (QAP). As a QAP, graduates of the B.S. degree are awarded the Graduate Safety Practitioner designation from the BCSP. Graduates with this designation receive a waiver of the Safety Fundamentals Examination and the recognition they are proceeding toward the CSP safety certification.

Fatality Prevention Forum
The Alcoa Foundation in cooperation with the IUP Safety Sciences Department and other sponsors hosted a national two-day Fatality Prevention in the Workplace forum on October 29 and 30, 2012. 
Safety Sciences Career Fair
Safety Sciences will host its 2014 Safety Sciences Career Fair on Thursday, October 2, at Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.
