    MSG AlterMSG Samuel Alter is originally from Florence, Colorado. He enlisted in the United States Army in August 2001. He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he was awarded the Military Occupation Specialty of Calvary Scout (19D).

    MSG Alter’s assignments and duty positions include: HHC 1st BN 4th Infantry Regiment, DIV Recon Platoon Hohenfels, Germany (Dismounted Scout), C TRP 2nd Squadron 9th Cavalry Regiment Ft. Carson, CO (Team Leader), A TRP 6th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment Ft. Hood, TX (Section Leader), HHC Garrison Ft. Hood, TX (Section Sergeant/ In-processing NCO), D CO 2nd Battalion 13th Infantry Regiment Ft. Jackson, SC (Drill Sergeant), Fitness Training Unit 120th AG Battalion Ft. Jackson, SC (Senior Drill Sergeant), Bravo Troop 1st Squadron 75th Cavalry Regiment Ft Campbell, KY (Platoon Sergeant/ First Sergeant), the Sabalauski Air Assault School 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) First Sergeant.

    MSG Alter’s deployments include: Operation Iraqi Freedom 2005–06 (OIF III); Operation Enduring Freedom 2008–09 (OEF); Operation Inherent Resolve 2016 (OIR).

    MSG Alter’s military and civilian education includes: Combat Life Savers Course, Basic Leaders Course, Advance Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Drill Sergeant School, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Army Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response Program, Armor Reconnaissance Course, Joint Fire Powers Course, Commander and First Sergeants Course, Air Assault School, Rappel Master Course, and Army Pathfinder School. MSG Alter also has earned an associate degree in general studies, and he is continuing his education for a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and sports medicine.

    MSG Alter is married to the former Michaele Dekker from Summerville, South Carolina. They have one son, Evan, and two daughters, Savannah and Adeline.
