    Engage your future with physics

Finding your way is easy with the help of our placement and counseling methods. Each student is placed in the appropriate introductory physics and mathematics courses. This leads to the essential studies of electromagnetism, mechanics, statistical mechanics, electronics, quantum mechanics, and solid state and/or nuclear physics. Advanced-level undergraduates also enjoy the benefit of completing some graduate courses while pursuing their undergraduate degree.

    Physics, BS

    • Gain a comprehensive foundation so you can determine what type of physicist you wish to become.
    • Probe the structure and behavior of matter through undergraduate research opportunities.
    • Delve into computer modeling of semiconductor processes to improve the performance of microchips.
    • Stretch your boundaries by pursuing cross-disciplinary research in areas of bio-, chemical-, or geophysics.

    Physics, Applied Track, BS

    • Physics is the underpinning of all science. It is increasingly becoming an important practical component of engineering, medicine, biology, and chemistry.
    • There are five concentrations within the Applied Physics Program: biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, and solid state electronics.

Physics, Pre-Engineering Track, BS, Dual Degree

    • Spend the first two to three years at IUP, then complete your engineering studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
    • Small class sizes in your IUP physics classes help you get a strong start in the field.
    • This dual-degree program is a good value.

    Physics, Nanomanufacturing Technology Track, BS

    • Gain experiential learning in the high-tech field of semiconductor device manufacturing at a state-of-the-art facility at Penn State–University Park Campus.
    • Prepare to enter careers in rapidly growing industries and higher education.

    Physics Education, BSEd

    • Master the science as well as the teaching techniques you will need to be an effective high school teacher in this challenging subject.
    • Our outstanding student teaching program will prepare you for teacher certification in Pennsylvania, which translates to certification in many other states.
