Inaugural Convocation Speaker Returns for Encore

The speaker for the inaugural freshman convocation will return to campus to deliver an address to this coming fall’s freshman class.

Samuel Heastie, a member of the Educational Leadership faculty at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, also is president and chief executive officer of Heastie Consulting. The company’s primary focus is training, and Heastie draws on his academic training and experiences to design, develop, and conduct training programs in human resources, customer service, management, and education for businesses, schools, community organizations, and churches.

The Nassau, Bahamas, native graduated from Freed-Hardeman University and taught high school in the Bahamas for several years before returning to the U.S. to continue his education. He earned his master’s degree at La Salle University and his doctoral degree at West Virginia University. He served as special assistant to the president for Diversity at Grove City College before going to Fayetteville.

Heastie delivered the convocation address in 2006. This year’s convocation takes place in Fisher Auditorium August 30 at 5:30 p.m.
