Title: An Overview of OSHA’s
Confined Space Standard for Construction
Overview: In 2015, OSHA’s Confined Spaces in
Construction Standard went into effect. This came over 20 years after a
similar standard was put in place for general industry. OSHA estimates
this standard will save approximately 800 workers per year from serious
injuries, as well as prevent deaths. Although it was late in coming – the
construction standard includes requirements that differ from general industry
and considers the multi-employer nature of construction. This webinar will go
over what the characteristics are of a “confined space”; what makes it a
“permit-required confined space”; some of the major requirements of the OSHA
standard, including the differences between the general industry and
construction standard; hazards associated with confined spaces and how to
evaluate and control them.
