Get My Story: Cody

Cody Nolen knows where he's going and how he's getting there.

A Geography major, he has aspirations to a career in regional or urban planning and as a military officer. He chose to begin college at Northpointe for reasons which included his job, his family, his finances, and his educational foundation.

Cody believes the smaller class setting at Northpointe has allowed him "a more personal learning experience," he said. "The teachers know you by name, and it is easier to learn . . . it is convenient to have a staff that really takes care of their students and helps them with whatever they need done. They do this whether it is administrative issues, or class issues."

Currently, with a busy schedule of classes, working in lawn care and as a military policeman, and training to run marathons, Cody helps keep his life in balance by attending the local campus. With family nearby and his work in the area, he has time to seek out employment and housing for his transition to the main campus.

Named to the Dean's List last fall, Cody has his education paid by the National Guard. Still, he appreciates other costs he saves by attending Northpointe. "There is less cost of transportation, living, food, and courses while commuting to Northpointe," he said.

"Northpointe is probably a win-win' situation. You get the IUP education with modern classrooms, stay closer to home, save money, get accustomed to the differences between high school and collegethis is the perfect place to start."
