Group Counseling, Spring 2014

Sometimes a problem is better addressed through group counseling than with an individual counselor. Talking with other students who have similar experiences provides support and perspective.

Groups available this spring include:

  • Can You Relate? - A group for men and women who would like to explore how to maintain and create healthy relationships.
  • Graduate Students - A support-oriented group for graduate students. Discussions are likely to include demands of graduate study, anxieties about competition and career, self-care, and more.
  • Making Connections - A structured group that will focus on ways to improve social connections and relationships with others.
  • Not Just Straight - Whether you are out, questioning, or not even sure, this group is for LGBTQA students to confidentially discuss and explore aspects of gender identity and sexual orientation.
  • Women: Finding Our Way - This group is a place for women to discuss common concerns about such things as academics, relationships, families, and body image.

To see full descriptions, meeting times, and contact information for these groups, refer to the Group Counseling Flyer

Counseling groups usually include five to eight students and are facilitated by one or two of the Counseling Center’s therapists. Group facilitators work to provide a safe, confidential environment where members are free to discuss their thoughts, feelings and concerns as they are comfortable.

To meet with a facilitator or ask questions about any of these groups, contact the group leader (see Group Counseling Flyer) or contact Patti Shaffer at
