To celebrate the opening of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh exhibit, the Board of Directors of the University Museum will host Starry, Starry Night: An Evening at Maxim’s. The gala will be held on September 24, 2010, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Blue Room and University Museum of IUP’s John Sutton Hall.
The board has taken the theme from Vincent Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night, and will transform the Blue Room in Sutton Hall into a turn-of-the-century bistro a la Maxim’s in Paris circa 1910. The evening will be filled with high-kicking can-can dancers, wonderful music, and fabulous food and drink.
The gala event will also feature a preview of the exhibition Beyond City Limits: Associated Artists of Pittsburgh at IUP, which opens the University Museum’s 2010–2011 season and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. The exhibit will highlight the works of AAP members with a connection to IUP, including faculty, alumni, or artists living and working in the region surrounding the university.
The gala also includes a cocktail reception, auction of specially selected art pieces, and a raffle drawing for a beautiful 14-karat white gold and 1.10 TW diamond pendent in an exciting starburst design. Raffle tickets are available in advance from board members and cost $10 each.
Reservations are required, and the cost is $125 per person It is a black-tie optional event. To receive an invitation or for raffle tickets, call the University Museum at 724-357-2397, or e-mail email@example.com. Invitations with RSVP forms, due by September 17, are also available online.
