IUP Communications Media faculty member Jeremy Waltman and IUP alumnus Donald Winzer collaborated on a proposal that is currently a finalist in the Film Impact Georgia grant competition.
Waltman and Winzer coauthored the proposal to create a short documentary about how social media has changed the landscape for magic performers. According to Winzer, “Social media and the revealing of tricks should have made magic obsolete, but instead, this ancient art form is more popular than ever with new, diverse performers.”
As finalists, Waltman and Winzer are among a small group of 10 filmmakers competing for funding for projects to be produced in Georgia next year. If awarded, Winzer will produce the short film, with Waltman directing. This would mark Waltman’s return to directing in Georgia, following his award-winning feature film It Plays Like Love (2015). It would also mark the duo’s second collaboration, their first being the short film Troubadour, which is currently making rounds in the festival circuit.
Winzer received his BS in Communications Media in 2018 and returned to complete his MS in Strategic Communication in 2019.
