Carl Rahkonen, Music Librarian, presented two papers and served as commentator and convener for two sessions at the national FinnFest USA in Detroit, Michigan, September 20-23, 2019.
Rahkonen's papers were on “Finnish Choirs in Detroit and North America” and “The Kantele in Contemporary America.” He served as convener for sessions on “Viola Turpeinen, Accordion Virtuoso” and “Immigrants and Refugees in 21st Century Europe.” Rahokonen also played fiddle with the Finn Hall and Laulu Aika bands from Minneapolis.
FinnFest USA is an annual national festival with strong academic, cultural, and commerce components presenting Finnish American and Finnish culture and heritage.
