The Wood Center at IUP is pleased to bring Arkansas-based artist Peter Scheidt to campus. Scheidt’s art “Kurb-Side Spoons” will be on display Monday, April 1, from 10:00 a.m. to noon outside Sprowls Hall and also 2:00–4:00 p.m. in the Oak Grove.
On Tuesday, April 2, Scheidt will continue his visit with “Chair Repair/Interventions” 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. and 2:00–4:30 p.m. in Sprowls Hall, room G8. And all are welcome to hear the artist talk in McVitty Auditorium Tuesday evening at 6:00.
Scheidt has modified a bicycle to travel the environment searching for discarded furniture. He salvages the wood curbside, and handcrafts spoons of all shapes and sizes at the bicycle that are for sale or barter.
Scheidt says carving the spoons by hand is a meditative experience and gratifying for observers to watch.
