On Tuesday, October 31, First Commonwealth President Jane Grebenc and First Commonwealth Sales Effective Coach Chris Adams ’91 came to visit IUP’s Student Managed Investment Portfolio (SMIP) to discuss what it is like to work for a publicly traded company headquartered here in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Grebenc and Adams have more than 50 combined years of financial services experience.

Grebenc and Adams both are highly educated with their MBAs from Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management and Pittsburgh University Katz School of Business. Leading up to their inception with First Commonwealth Bank, they both worked in other financial providers throughout the country and now help run Pennsylvania’s sixth-largest bank. Grebenc stays busy by covering over 140 branches in the Pennsylvania area, as well as the Ohio market. Adams covers 128 financial centers throughout the Pennsylvania area. Both were kind to take time out of their hectic schedules to contribute information and conversation with SMIP students.

Both emphasized the imperative efforts you must exert towards your career to ensure success. Adams said, “Invest in yourself. Build a brand that you can be proud of and that others remember.” He also said, “Take on new challenges, and it is okay to be uncomfortable throughout your career. This means you are able to learn something new and eventually use that as a positive experience.”

Grebenc and Adams are both committed to client and teammate success and continue to contribute to their team at First Commonwealth Bank and throughout their communities and the university.
