The Department of Theater and Dance is thrilled to be joined by Frederick Douglass Fellow Ethan Hollinger. Hollinger recently graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre with a concentration in Lighting Design from Illinois State University.

He spent 2017 as an assistant lighting designer at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre. The Frederick Douglass Fellowship provides support and mentoring to young academic professionals who have the experience, abilities, and enthusiasm to help programs and institutions meet their inclusion and diversity goals. Hollinger will join the department in creating new works that examine inclusion and diversity, and will contribute to classroom and other initiatives to continue “courageous conversations” about race, gender, and sexual identity on campus.

English Professor Veronica Watson directs IUP’s Frederick Douglass Institute, which awards the fellowship. She is the convener of the State System’s FDI Collaborative to engage low income, first generation and historically under-represented minority students in high impact, transformative, educational opportunities.
