Executive in Residence Nadav Baum '86, with studentsBuilding relationships is paramount.

Nadav Baum ’86 spoke to more than 200 students on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in the Eberly auditorium, serving as an executive in residence.

Baum is executive vice president of Wealth Management at Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC, with more than 31 years of experience in the financial services industry. He is well known locally and nationally in the financial industry. As a regular CNBC online contributor, Baum is often asked for his opinion on an extensive range of financial and economic issues.

Baum takes a holistic approach to wealth management and has advised high net worth individuals and their families throughout his career. Baum believes that every client deserves outstanding customer service and in-depth planning services. He currently holds Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Series 7, 24, 31, 63, and 65 licenses.

Baum is actively involved in several local nonprofit organizations. He is currently a member of the Business Advisory Council of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Advisory Board of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association of Western Pennsylvania, and the Circles Board of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

Eberly students had the honor of listening to Baum throughout the day, and the message he shared was overwhelmingly focused on building and maintaining relationships throughout life.

He challenged students to figure out their passion, dream, be sincere, care, and be engaging with those around you—at home, at work, and in their community.

Baum shared a quote several times: “work today like no one will, so you can play tomorrow like no one can.” He asked students to visualize their goals, write them down, and never stop dreaming.

He motivated the students throughout the day to continue to drive and push forward in life while continuously challenging themselves, and finally shared his key factors of success:

  • create opportunities daily;
  • never become complacent;
  • ask “how can I become better at what I do?”
  • stay motivated and focused on your goals;
  • always have a positive attitude, be upbeat and happy to get out of bed; and
  • be persistent with creating and maintaining life-long relationships.

Cyndy Strittmatter, assistant dean for the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, appreciated Baum’s visit and presentation. “Nadav has been a long-time supporter of IUP, Eberly, and our students. We appreciate him sharing his expertise, energy, and advice with our students. The Executive in Residence program is a great way for us to bring our accomplished alumni back to campus to not only showcase IUP and our students to our alumni, but to have our students learn from our graduates who have excelled in the business world.”
