IUP Women's Leadership Award Winners

The IUP Women’s Leadership Awards were announced on March 21, 2018, in a reception in the Blue Room. Since 1986, these awards recognize women for their outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and community contributions on and off the IUP campus.

Global Engagement Award

Exemplifies someone who has demonstrated outstanding leadership beyond the classroom and with an international lens

2018 Winner:

Hediye Ozkan, doctoral candidate in English Literature and Criticism (in photo above)

Jane Leonard Award for the Advancement of Women

Provides recognition to an individual who has contributed to the advancement of women at Indiana University of Pennsylvania through elevating the status of women; improving campus policies affecting women; establishing professional development opportunities for women; and participating in the establishment of academic mentoring for women

Ruth Riesenman and Melissa Swauger, 2018 Jane Leonard Award Winners

2018 Winners:

  • Ruth Riesenman, executive assistant to the President (retired); Foundation board; community service
  • Melissa Swauger, associate professor of Sociology

National Conference for College Women Student Leaders: Grant Winners

They will have the opportunity to work with other female leaders, harness their leadership potential, view the world through new perspectives, and promote the work of IUP women as they participation in the conference.
