Erick Lauber, professor of journalism and public relations and Director of Community Health and Leadership at MARTI, has brought together the first Heart of a Champion Awards. The awards dinner, to be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, seeks to raise funds to combat the growing heroin and opioid epidemic sweeping Western Pennsylvania.

All funds raised at the event will be utilized by the Open Door of Indiana to provide services to those struggling with addiction, and by MARTI-CBH to conduct research on ways to prevent opioid addiction.

Along with dinner at the Indiana Country Club, several live and silent auctions will take place throughout the event. The honorees of the evening will be Indiana Sheriff Bob Fyock, along with his canine Bak, and former Steelers player and Hall of Famer Franco Harris.
