The education outreach sessions with Lively Arts 2017-18 Ovations! series artists are in full swing and enjoying early success.

Pablo and Students 01 - 220The first outreach on Sep. 25 had renowned Spanish guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas at Redbank Valley Intermediate School, Clarion County, performing for over 300 students. He presented a fun program of titled, "Pablo and His Guitar Around the World," which took the children to several different countries that he has performed.  In each he brought out something unique that the students could remember.

He also talked about the elements of music, reinforcing the music Pablo and Teacher - 220lessons of their teacher, IUP graduate Sarah Williams.  In addition to be one of the worlds finest guitarists, Pablo is a natural teacher and displayed an amazing rapport with the students.

The second outreach, planned for the night of Oct. 12, has six cast members from the hit Broadway show Jersey Boys talking with local and regional high school and college-age theater students. Students have the opportunity to talk with successful actors about "the biz" and what it takes to reach their level of success.  Of course, any topic is fair game in these fun, informational, and engaging sessions!

KYLD_ChairExt_224The third outreach actually started in September with an early visit of Kun-Yang Lin, the artistic director of the Kun-Yang Lin Dancers (KYL/D), and others from the company as they began residency work with IUP Dance students who would be performing with them on a dance as part of the KYL/D performance in Fisher Auditorium on Oct. 17. After auditioning and selecting several students, the KYL/D immersed them into the world of "CHI Awareness Practice" with 2 full days of intense rehearsal.

The residency work will continue Oct. 14-17 as the KYL/D return to continue working with IUP dance students on the piece to be performed Oct. 17, but to also present a dance workshop on Kun-Yan Lin's signature CHI Awareness Practice, the foundational technique for the KYL/D. This workshop is designed for high school and college-age dancers, and takes place at from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in the rehearsal studio of the IUP Performing Arts Center.

KYL-D - Ken Metzner - 200A final KYL/D outreach takes place on Oct. 17 from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the Zink Hall Dance Theater Studio as the Executive Director for KYL/D, Ken Metzner, will give a presentation titled, "So You Wanna Run a Dance Company...."
