Buckwalter, International Student and Scholar advisor, was selected to present
at the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies Conference 2017 held at
Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
His study, “Path to U.S. Higher
Education: A Study of Chinese Students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania,” collected
data on the varied ethnic backgrounds of the Chinese student population at IUP
and sought to determine if ethnicity was a factor in the students’ educational opportunities
and decisions. Buckwalter presented his research on a panel discussing “Mobility
and Networks in Chinese Education.”
Founded in 1971, the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for
Asian Studies is a nonpolitical, nonprofit scholarly organization
dedicated to bringing Asia and America together. MARAAS has offered conferences, publications, and outreach activities to
an increasingly large public in the mid-Atlantic region. It facilitates contact
among educators and professionals in such fields as business, law, government,
and mass media. MARAAS is successful in carrying out its mission because of the
individual support it receives from its membership.
Presenter information can be found on the MARAAS Conference 2017 website.
