IUP Engages in EducationUSA Sub-Saharan Regional Forum

Michele Petrucci, Austin Henderson, Savannah Thorpe, and Yaw AsamoahMichele Petrucci, associate vice president for International Education and Global Engagement, and Yaw Asamoah, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, participated in the U.S. Department of State’s conference dedicated to Sub-Saharan Africa and U.S. Higher Education held in Accra, Ghana.

While they were in the regional forum, they got to spend time with two current IUP students, Austin Henderson and Savannah Thorpe, and an IUP alumna, Jessica Gardner. In the conference photo above, from left, are Petrucci, Henderson, Thorpe, and Asamoah.

Petrucci and Asamoah actively participated in the forum and were able to:

  • learn about more than 48 African countries and their educational systems (opportunities and challenges)
  • gather best practices and higher education needs within the four African regions (east, west, central and southern)
  • network with colleagues from across the continent and U.S.
  • meet with prospective IUP students from Ghana
