Diane Stipcak, from the IUP Career and Professional Development Center, was selected as Liaison of the Year by the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

More than 500 colleges and universities participate in the program.

“This is a wonderful honor for IUP and for our Internship and Service Learning program,” IUP President Michael Driscoll said. “Diane has our congratulations for her ongoing work to help connect students with experiences that help them succeed both in and outside the classroom and after graduation.”

Student Opportunities in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Center is an independent, nonprofit organization serving colleges and universities in the United States and other countries by providing selected students with challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C. for academic credit.

The largest program of its kind, the Washington Center has 95 full-time staff members and more than 50,000 alumni, many of whom are in leadership positions in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Helped About 200 Students Gain Internships

During the 13 years Stipcak has coordinated the program, approximately 200 IUP students have participated in the educational internships and have received more than $1 million in scholarships.

“The greatest compliment I received was from the Washington Center President Michael Smith, who commented that our students are very well prepared for their internship experiences,” Stipcak said. “I am proud to have had this opportunity to represent IUP as one of the Washington Center’s top-tier universities in the nation.

“This achievement was not accomplished alone—it is a reflection of the great work that our faculty members do preparing our students; the insight of our internship coordinators, who recognize the value of these internships; the outstanding students enrolled at IUP; and the unending support I receive from the Career and Professional Development Center.”
