The 2015 High School Art Invitational at the University Museum of Indiana University of Pennsylvania
is a celebration of Pennsylvania student artists.
It will showcase over 50 works representing 12 high schools from across the
state. The exhibit opens on Saturday, March 28, and runs through May 16.
The invitational, featuring the best artwork from high school
juniors, selected by their teachers, ranging from drawings and paintings to mixed media and ceramics. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania
Art Education Association.
The exhibition is organized by Robert Sweeny, professor
of art education and coordinator of art education with IUP’s Department of
Art. Sweeny is the senior editor of the Journal of the National Art
Education Association and has published and presented his research on digital
technologies and artistic practices in numerous venues.
The 12 schools represented include Indiana Area High School,
Marion Center Area High School, Purchase Line Arts High School, Kiski
School in Saltsburg, Punxsutawney Area High School, Greater Latrobe Senior High
School, Williamson Junior-Senior High School in Lawrenceville, Highlands High
School in Natrona Heights, State College Area High School, Greencastle-Antrim
High School in Greencastle, Northern High School in York, and Pocono Mountain
West High School in Pocono Summit.
A public reception for the exhibition will take place on Saturday,
April 11, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.
The University Museum, located on the
first floor of John Sutton Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday
2:00–6:30 p.m.; Thursday 12:00–7:30 p.m.; and Saturday 12:00–4:00 p.m. It is
closed Sunday and Monday. Admission to the exhibit and reception is free.
