One hundred percent of IUP’s doctoral students in clinical psychology have been placed in clinical internship slots in hospitals and clinics, beating the national average for PsyD programs of 72 percent.

Each year, doctoral students in clinical psychology enter a nationwide matching system to compete for limited clinical internship slots in hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S. Each year, approximately 25 percent of all applicants do not match.

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs such as IUP traditionally do worse than PhD programs at placing students. The match rate is considered an important measure of program quality to the point that the American Psychological Association requires all programs to publish data on their match rate for the past five years.

This year, 17 students from IUP were entered into the match and all 17 matched! To put this 100 percent match rate in context, the average match rate for PsyD programs this year was 72 percent and 80 percent for PhD programs. This is a remarkable outcome that reflects highly on the students of IUP’s PsyD program.
