Sheldon Thorpe Serves Eberly as Executive-in-Residence

Sheldon Thorpe and students in the Eberly College of Business and Information TechnologySheldon Thorpe spoke in 10 business classes and held office hours to talk to business students in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology on October 29–30, 2014.

He spoke about his career path to students in several classes, including production and operations management, human behavior in organization, management development and training, principles of management, supply chain management, and quality management.

He also shared some of his workplace experiences, including workplace relationships, losing a job, and changing careers. He encouraged students to pursue a career in what they are good at.

Thorpe served as the VP of Global Human Resources for Graham Packaging Company, a $2.8-billion bottle manufacturing company, and had executive leadership for all HR functions (employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, and training and development).

Thorpe received a BS in industrial engineering from the GMI Engineering and Management Institute and an MS in decision sciences from Harvard University.

The Executive in Residence program invites executives and entrepreneurs from various fields to share their knowledge and experience with students at Eberly College of Business and Information Technology.

“Dr. Thorpe’s presentation was very engaging and relatable,” said Christine Shontz, a junior accounting major. “He suggested getting from experienced professionals who have been in their career for a long time. I enjoyed hearing about his career and professional path.”
