To kick off the event Monday, James Rodger, an MIS professor from IUP, held a 3D printing presentation in Eberly Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. For example, Rodger printed a squirrel, a salt shaker, and a penguin figurine using the technology.

On Tuesday, AMIS took 20 students on a tour of the IUP Data Center in Stright. They were led by Paul Grieggs from the IT department.

Spencer Lee Whitehead, an IUP graduate student, explained the process of implementing and then utilizing virtual machines in Eberly on Wednesday.

The grand finale of the event was a panel discussion held on October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Eberly Auditorium with multiple guest speakers. They discussed topics ranging from “big data” to social media privacy, net neutrality, cloud computing, and other MIS-related topics.

The speakers include George Bartha, director at Bayer; Robi Schmiedlin, senior manager for infrastructure and operations at Bayer; Jack Claus, IT director at Pittsburgh Glass Works; Pankaj, Information Systems and Decision Sciences chairperson and co-advisor for AMIS; and David Smith, head of the Computer Science Department at IUP.

“Tech week was a very informative event, and it had a lot of relevant information for IT students,” said Erik Larson, junior MIS major. “Having experts in the field speak offered great insight.”

AMIS is a club for students who are interested in MIS and exposure to new technology and its effect on the workplace.

The organization meets every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Eberly room 111. Keep up with their latest events through their Facebook page, IUP AMIS, or contact co-advisor Micki Hyde at micki.hyde@iup.edu.
