A Continuing Professional Education (CPE) seminar for certified public accountants (CPAs) will be held on October 20, 2014, at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will include free parking. This seminar is sponsored by the First National Bank.

Preregistration is required for the seminar and must be submitted by Monday, October 13, and be accompanied with the $129 fee. The registration form can be downloaded and should be completed and mailed in along with the fee. This eight-hour course will award attendees 8 CPE credit hours, and, upon completion of the seminar, participants will receive a certificate listing the type and number of credits earned.

The CPE seminars are opportunities for CPAs to earn credits to maintain certification, as they are required to earn a number and types of credits for each recertification period.

“As IUP expands its CPE program to downtown Pittsburgh, hopefully IUP accounting grads in the Pittsburgh area will take advantage of this CPE seminar, for which a portion of the net proceeds support IUP accounting scholarships,” said Duane Ponko, former IUP accounting professor and owner of DW Ponko, CPA CFE.

The presenters at the seminar will cover a range of topics that are timely and purposeful to the public accounting profession such as fraud, tax law, estate planning, auditor and internal controls, mutual funds, ethics, and more.

The presenters include:

  • Heidi Bartholomew — Interim director for the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership. She has held various financial executive positions with multinational corporations.
