Military Resource Center (MRC) at Indiana University of Pennsylvania recently celebrated its grand opening and
installation of military themed items from the University Museum’s Permanent Collection.
World War I-era prints by various artists and World War II
photographs by W.L. Coffman will remain on long-term loan from the University
Museum and on display in the MRC.
The prints, “Keep it Coming” by George Illian
and “Lend as They Fight—Buy More Liberty Bonds” by Sidney H. Riesenberg
(shown above) exemplify the propaganda posters of the era. A series of photographs by Wilbur
Lee Coffman depict a
variety of issues and scenes, including the Swedish “Mercy Ship” Gripsholm
arriving in Algiers, a gathering of female soldiers, and military personnel
clearing German mines in Rome. Coffman was a field representative of the Office of War Information between
1942 and 1945 and, later, a studio photographer in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
For the summer 2014 sessions, the Military Resource Center, located
in Rooms 101 and 102 of Pratt Hall,
is open to visitors Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The Military Resource Center
at IUP is committed to providing military-friendly programs and services to our
veteran and military-affiliated students and serves as a one-stop information and referral site to
help our students transition to college life and achieve their academic goals.
