The program started at the University of Michigan in 1995 and is conducted at hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide. IUP started Lavender Graduation in 2011.

Candace Gingrich (’89), of the Human Rights Campaign, was the keynote speaker at this year’s program. President Michael Driscoll was present to congratulate the students and present them with a certificate of recognition. Each student was also presented with a lavender cord which can be worn at the university’s Commencement ceremonies on May 10.
