The fight for equal pay still continues today. IUP Women’s Programs will host a trivia contest to gear up for Equal Pay Day next week. Check the Beak throughout the first week of April for new questions.

Today’s question:

In 1963, when the Equal Pay Act was passed, women made ___ cents on the dollar compared to men.

The first 10 people to e-mail the correct answer to will win an Equal Pay Day Prize!

Equal Pay Day is Tuesday, April 8, 2014. This date symbolizes how far into 2013 women had to work in order to earn what men earned in 2012. Because women earn less, on average, than men, they must work longer for the same amount of pay. The wage gap is even greater for most women of color.

You can promote Equal Pay Day by:

  • Wearing red on Tuesday, April 8, to symbolize how far women and minorities are “in the red” with their pay!
  • Visiting the CHWB Health Hut for free red ribbons, Equal Pay Day Buttons, and Pay Equity resource materials
  • Talking about pay equity. Remember, it’s not just a women’s issue. Everyone in society is harmed by wage discrimination.
  • Attending the $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshop on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. E-mail for more information. This workshop is free to all IUP students. You must RSVP to attend.
  • Visiting the National Committee on Pay Equity website for more information on pay equity.
