The IUP Department of Music will host an Alumni Jazz Weekend on November 8–10, 2013. This event is held bi-annually.
Events include a reception at Breezedale Alumni Center on Friday evening, rehearsals during the day on Saturday, followed by attendance at an evening performance presented by the IUP Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble, and a performance on Sunday afternoon.
The featured alumnus for the weekend will be Michael Bodolosky (B.S. in Ed. 1972, M.M. 1978). Mr. Bodolosky is the retired (2007) director of Bands and Fine Arts Department chair for the Richland School District. He is currently executive director of the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center and director of Bands, musical conductor, and music instructor at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He is also founder and leader of Jazz in Your Face Big Band, an 18-piece jazz band dedicated to jazz education and entertaining audiences through regular appearances in the Greater Johnstown area and western Pennsylvania. He will perform with both university big bands during the Saturday evening concert.
The last alumni jazz weekend was held in 2011 and included graduates spanning seven decades, from the 1950s through 2011.
