What do you get when you put the current and future leaders of the business industry in the same room? Students in the Student Finance Association (SFA) and the Student Managed Investment Portfolio (SMIP) found out when they visited the RISE student investment conference at the University of Dayton from April 4-6, 2013.
RISE is the largest student investment conference in the world. It conducts an annual, three-day event featuring top business professionals from Wall Street, corporate America, and the financial media.
On the first day of the trip, students listened in on a keynote panel discussion between prestigious professionals, including Charles L. Evans, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Dennis P. Lockhart, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; David Asman, anchor of FOX Business Network; Mellody Hobson, president of Ariel Investments, and many more.
The professionals separated into interactive panels discussing the economy, markets, and the future of the industry while responding to student questions in the audience.
During the remaining time, students attended their selection of breakout sessions and workshops on topics like private equity, fixed income portfolio management, modern portfolio management strategies, and many more.
“Hearing from two Federal Reserve Bank presidents, participating in investment workshops with industry experts, and interacting with like-minded students from across the globe all combined to form a uniquely amazing experience,” said Cory Ireland, president of SMIP.
Attending the RISE conference provided students with valuable information beyond what they learn in a classroom. They were able to gain an insider’s view on what working in the modern industry is like as well as skills needed to become successful after graduation.
