The IUP Trumpet Ensemble, directed by Professor Kevin Eisensmith, will present its annual spring recital on Tuesday, April 23, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, second floor, Sutton Hall.
The program is free and open to the general public.
Numerous pieces for the 25-member ensemble, along with works for smaller groups, will be performed.
The program will begin with the David Stanhope’s “Australian Fanfare,” which was written in 1983 for Danny Mendelow, a Pittsburgh native and the longtime principal trumpet player for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Karen Sloneker, assistant professor of trumpet, will be the featured soloist on “Heralding,” by Ronald LoPresti, a former faculty member of the Department of Music.
Among the smaller ensembles that will perform is a group of six students who will attend the “Orvieto Trumpet Festival” in Orvieto, Italy, this summer. They'll play two selections from the repertoire they will perform in Italy.
The IUP Trumpet Ensemble includes both music majors and nonmusic majors who audition for acceptance into the group.
