The IUP Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA) took a trip on November 11, 2011, to visit CME Group in Chicago.
The students’ trip included access to the viewing gallery that overlooks the trading floors of the group, something that is normally closed to the public. They also learned about the history of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, and the New York Mercantile Exchange—now merged to form CME Group.
“This was the first visit from GBSA to CME Group, and hopefully it will not be the last,” said GBSA President Cynthia Avalos. “We are planning to go to the Federal Reserve in Chicago for next semester.”
CME Group offers futures and options to customers around the world based on agricultural commodities, equity indexes, energy, foreign exchange, interest rates, metals, and alternative investment products—weather and real estate. The group also brings buyers and sellers together through its CME Globex electronic trading platform and trading facilities in New York and Chicago.
