Jon Lewis, of the IUP Department of Geoscience, was one of nine leaders for a five-day NSF-funded workshop held at the College of William and Mary in June 2011.
The workshop, titled “Early Career Geoscience Faculty: Teaching, Research, and Managing Your Career,” is one of the Cutting Edge workshops aimed at effective teaching and professional development.
It was attended by forty-two junior faculty members from Geoscience and related departments from across the country, including community colleges, primarily undergraduate institutions, and research institutions.
Each day, the attendees participated in sessions that addressed specific aspects of their careers—effective teaching, incorporating writing in the classroom, getting their research started, securing extramural funding, and including undergraduates in their research.
