The University Museum opens its first exhibition of the season, Beyond City Limits: Associated Artists of Pittsburgh at IUP, on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. The exhibit celebrates the centennial of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, while highlighting the works of AAP members with a connection to IUP as faculty, alumni, and other artists living and working in the Indiana area.
Oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, pastels, photography, ceramics, and sculpture will be exhibited in the show. AAP member, professional artist, and former chairperson of the IUP Department of Art Vaughn Clay serves as curator with his works represented in the exhibit.
The show will feature forty other current and former regional members the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, including Skip Allen, Marjorie Arnett, Janice Barone, Michael Begenyi, Charles Biddle, Daniel Bolick, Emily Bowser, Edward Burda, Kathleen Burk, Peter Calaboyias, Michael Campbell, Ron Donoughe, John Dorinsky, John Dropcho, Norma Ed, Julie Engelmann, Sue Foster, Donn Hedman, Adrienne Heinrich, and Gloria Hersch.
Completing the list of artists represented are Karen Howell-Elder, Maura Keeney, C. Richard Kenawell, Ronald Korczynski, Robert Scott Lloyd, Alisha McCurdy, Katherine McLean, Judith H. Musser, James Myford, Ronald Nigro, Charles Olson, Susan Pollins, Anna Marie Schnur, Kitty Spangler, James Rettinger, Richard Stoner, Melissa Vertosick, Chris Weiland, Ned O. Wert, Kamal Youssef, and Hisham Youssef.
Through the run of the exhibit, there will be a series of five lectures that will be presented by artists included in the exhibit. Proceeds support the University Museum’s exhibitions and other activities at the museum, including exhibition-related gallery talks and workshops, docent-led group tours, and other events for youth and adults. Admission to public exhibitions and most programs is free.
The exhibition will be open September 28 through December 4, 2010. Museum hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2:00 to 6:30 p.m.; Thursdays from 12:00 to 7:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. The museum is closed Sunday, Monday, and university holidays.
