Exhibit: The Longing Ritual

Kipp Gallery, First Floor Spowls Hall

The Lively Arts

Throughout his career, the concept of synthesis has been central to Turri’s work. The source material for “The Longing Ritual” series is culled from cyclical rituals: walking through Frick Park, the Homewood Cemetery, the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill, and Point Breeze where he often records (through photography) the memorable visual moments that he experiences with regularity.

The paintings are not traditional landscape paintings; the work is meant to reflect the ever-pervasive presence of the screen and the digital device and its intrusion on the ability for real experience.

Rock and Mineral Sale

Weyandt Hall, Planetarium Auditorium

Geoscience Department

The Geological Society of IUP annual Rock and Mineral Sale will be held November 18–22, 2019, in the Weyandt Hall Planetarium Lobby.

Angels’ Wings is a holiday gift-giving program created to provide gifts for more than 2,000 children, elderly, and physically/mentally challenged people in the Indiana area. The program is coordinated at IUP by the Office of Service Learning.

Tags can be picked up in several campus buildings November 18–22, 2019—just look for the evergreen tree and select a tag! By selecting a tag from the angel tree, you can help provide holiday gifts to children or adults in our community who otherwise wouldn’t receive one. Often, the adults who receive the gifts are disabled, veterans, or elderly. The tag will indicate the age and gender of the person, as well as ideas of the gifts that have been wished for. While recipients were asked to list what they’d like as gifts, you aren’t required to get all of the gift ideas. The program’s main goal is to make sure that all recipients have at least one present to open for the holidays.

Unwrapped gifts with the tag secured to the gift with tape can be dropped off at the HUB Atrium at the Angel Tree table from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on December 2 and 3, 2019. Gifts can also be dropped off in Pratt Hall 302 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on December 2, and from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on December 3. If you or your organizations are interested in assisting with the Angels’ Wings, please contact Brianna Faber at shfw@iup.edu or Angela Martinelli at martinel@iup.edu, 302 Pratt Hall, 724-357-2235.
