Bill Richter, an MA candidate in Horn Performance in the IUP Department of Music, will be attending West Virginia University in the fall to pursue a doctor of musical arts degree in horn performance.
At IUP, he worked as one of the graduate assistants for the bands. Throughout his time at IUP, Bill has performed various chamber and solo recitals. He has also performed with both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. In regard to chamber ensembles, Bill has performed with the Legacy Brass Quintet, Horn Choir, and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranksters (the honors horn quartet). Bill has been featured as a student and performer at IUP's Horn Day, Penn State's Horn Day, International Horn Symposium 50, and the Northeast Horn Workshop.In addition to playing, Bill has also conducted and written music for the Horn Choir.
During his time at IUP, Bill has also been an advocate of new music. He has commissioned eight brand-new works that include horn in his two years of study. He has also played on several world premiers of larger ensemble works.
After finishing his studies at WVU, Bill plans to be a horn professor at a university. In addition to this, he plans to open up a brewpub where live, classical music is performed in a comfortable environment to expose more people to it.
Bill's overall goal is to continue to teach and perform the music and instrument that he loves while promoting the accessibility of classical music to every person possible.
