All students interested in being a music major or minor are required to audition. Information about auditioning for the IUP Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance can be found on our Music Auditions page.

If you are accepted to IUP, you may declare a major in theatre without an audition. Auditions and portfolio reviews are required to be eligible for a Freshman Talent Scholarship.
All music, theatre, and dance majors are eligible for scholarships, which are determined based on your audition.

William Sugg, who has more than 15 years of experience in music education at the secondary and university levels with competitive and high-profile marching programs, has been named director of Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Marching Band and associate director of Bands. Sugg has served as the interim director of the Marching Band since August 2025.

The IUP Voice Area earned top awards at Susquehanna University for the Eastern Region National Association of Teachers of Singing Conference in March 2026. Of the six competing students from IUP, five advanced to the semifinals, and four competed in the final rounds and placed in the top three of their categories.
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, will present a special performance titled “Cosmic Voyage,” featuring selections from Gustav Holst’s iconic orchestral suite “The Planets” on Sunday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.
Students, alumni, and faculty of IUP’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance participated in Penns Manor High School’s recent production of “Matilda.” The musical was performed on March 26–28, 2026.
