All students interested in being a music major or minor are required to audition. Information about auditioning for the IUP Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance can be found on our Music Auditions page.

All music majors are eligible for scholarships, which are determined based on your audition.

Review Audition Guidelines

If you are accepted to IUP, you may declare a major in theatre without an audition. Auditions and portfolio reviews are required to be eligible for a Freshman Talent Scholarship.

All-Steinway School - Steinway and Sons Indiana University of Pennsylvania is an All-Steinway School and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association of Schools of Theater.

Jennings and Guest Charoenwongse to Present a Recital on Tuesday, September 3

Cellist Linda Jennings and pianist Chindarat Charoenwongse will present the first recital of the IUP season in Gorell Hall on Tuesday evening, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. The program will present traditional works alongside newer works, including Claude Debussy’s sonata, the slow movement of the Rachmaninoff sonata, and works by David Maslanka, Chen Yi, and Samuel Magrill. The recital is open and free to the public.

IUP String Project Accepting Applications for Fall 2024 Semester

The IUP String Project, a community music education outreach program for children ages 5–18 in Indiana and the surrounding area, is now accepting applications for private lesson instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass. Applications are due on September 1.

IUP Names Nalepa to Direct “The Legend” Marching Band

Cassidy Nalepa, a 2003 Indiana University of Pennsylvania music education graduate, has been selected to serve as the interim director of “The Legend,” the IUP Marching Band, and as interim associate director of Bands in the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

Collins Publishes Four Compositions

Zach Collins, professor of tuba and euphonium at IUP, recently published four new compositions with Cimarron Music Press.

Wong Doe Performs Concert Tour in New Zealand

IUP piano professor Henry Wong Doe recently completed a three-concert tour of New Zealand, performing on July 20, 21, and August 3. He performed two separate programs at three cities in the North Island: Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast, the capital city of Wellington, and Warkworth (one hour north of Auckland).
