Ford Foundation Diversity Grants

Pre-doctoral fellowship for students who intend to acquire their PhD or ScD degrees in the future.
Students eligible for the Pre-Doctoral Fellowship must be a senior in undergraduate studies with the intention of enrolling in a program that leads to a PhD or ScD the semester directly following undergraduate graduation. Other people eligible include those who have completed their undergraduate studies with the same intention of enrolling in a program that leads to a PhD or ScD or those who have completed some graduate school in a program that leads to a PhD or ScD
Students who are awarded a Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowship receive support for three years, which includes an annual stipend of $24,000, expenses paid in order attend at least one Conference of Ford Fellows, and access to mentoring.

GEM PhD Science Full Fellowship Program
Tuition with a minimum stipend of $16,000
Deadline: Closed
Criteria for selection include: U.S. citizen or permanent resident, specific ethnicity underrepresented in the natural sciences, enrollment as a senior, graduate student, or working professional with a minimum of a B.S. in an applied science discipline with a minimum GPA of 3.0; and an academic record that indicates the ability to pursue graduate studies in the applied sciences.

National Academies
Four organizations comprise the Academies: the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. The Fellowship Office administers predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral fellowship programs in research-based fields of study. The office currently administers the following programs: The Ford Foundation Predoctoral, Dissertation, and Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities; the Resident Research Associateships Program; the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Urban Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowships; the U.S. Department of State Jefferson Science Fellows Program; and the Vietnam Education Foundation Fellowships.

National Consortium For Graduate Degrees for Minorities

Amount National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships last for three years and pay $102,000 in stipend funds and up to $1,000 a year in medical insurance.
Program open only to applicants who are citizens or nationals of the U.S. Applicants should be at or near the beginning of their work on a doctoral degree in a mathematical, physical, biological, ocean, or engineering science. Applications are particularly encouraged from women, minorities, and persons with disabilities. Selection is based on academic record, recommendations, and standardized test scores. Financial need is not considered.

National Physical Science Consortium
Graduate fellowships for minorities and women in Physical Science
Field(s): Astronomy; Chemistry; Computer Science; Geology; Material Science; Mathematics; Physics. Open to U.S. citizens who are Black, Hispanic, Native American, and/or female who have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and are eligible to pursue graduate study in the above areas at a participating NPSC member university. Renewable for up to six years. Total value of award up to $102,000.

National Science Foundation
Deadlines vary according to field
For three years, fellows are awarded an annual $32,000 stipend as well as a $12,000 cost of education allowance to one’s graduate studies institution.
The National Science Foundation awards fellowship to students who are enrolling in science or engineering graduate programs at a U.S. institution. Confirmation of acceptance to an approved graduate program is required before fellowship acceptance. The Foundation encourages underrepresented students in the science and engineering fields to apply.

Department of Energy
Benefits: Yearly stipend of $36,000; payment of all tuition and fees; $1,000 yearly academic allowance.
The Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship Program provides outstanding benefits and opportunities to students pursuing a PhD in areas of interest to stewardship science, such as high-energy-density physics, low-energy nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions. Fellows also participate in research at a DOE laboratory.
This program is open only to U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens studying at a U.S. university who are exceptional senior undergraduates or are in their first or second year of graduate study.

Amount: $20,000 stipend and health insurance
Applicants for the pre-doctoral fellowship must have completed all requirements for the PhD in Afro-American or African Studies, except for the dissertation, prior to August of the fellowship year. Applicants must include a description of a research project that would be pursued during the fellowship year.

Art History Fellowship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Opportunities are available for Mellon Fellowships for Dissertation Research in Original Sources.
Fifteen 9-12 month fellowships will be offered with a monthly stipend of $2,000.
Research begins on June 1- September 1, 2016 and will end within 12 months of commencing.

Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

This program provides opportunities for continuing generations of accomplished “new Americans” to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The fellowship grants half tuition plus $20,000/year for up to two years of graduate study in the United States. Applicants must provide evidence of at least two of the following: creativity, originality, and initiative; commitment to and capacity for accomplishment; commitment to the values expressed in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Qualifications: Applications are open to those who hold "green cards," have been naturalized as U.S. citizens, or are the children of two parents who are naturalized citizens. Applicants must either have a bachelor’s degree or be in the final year of undergraduate study and must not be more than 30 years of age. Applicants maybe in graduate school, though not beyond their second year.

Public Health Associate Program

Must be a U.S. citizen and hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution by July 1 of the year of application (applicants with a master’s degree will be considered, but do not receive preference in hiring, nor a higher pay). Individuals holding a master’s degree may be eligible for other CDC fellowship programs. Must be willing to commit to full-time work for two years. Must be willing to work in a state, tribal, local, or territorial health agency setting, or CDC quarantine station and must be willing to relocate at the associate’s own expense.
