Using a case example, this presentation will address the impact of critical incidents and trauma on First Responders and the communities that they serve. Special consideration will be given to the behavioral health providers role in addressing these concerns.

Objectives

  1. Explain the sensory impact of trauma on individuals.
  2. Identify the types of reactions responders may experience and why they differentiate from the general population.
  3. Relate the impact that violent events have on community and family life.
  4. Propose ways to develop a "new normal" after such incidents.
