This workshop addresses the help-seeking pathways of Mexican migrant and immigrant workers with substance use disorders (SUDs). It Introduces grassroots and culturally appropriate SUDs interventions that the workers have developed on their own and used in more than one county, and makes suggestions for implementing these interventions in Pennsylvania.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the major barriers to substance abuse treatment that migrants and immigrants encounter.
  2. Relate substance abuse treatments developed by migrants and immigrants in response to these barriers.
  3. Practice cultural sensitivity in developing and implementing SUDs interventions.

Target Audience: Clinical personnel, counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, educators, criminal justice professionals, health care professionals.

Introductory level. CE credits offered = 1.5 contact hours.
