This workshop, utilizing the most current data for the Middle Atlantic States with emphasis on Pennsylvania, will review the current trends regarding alcohol and other drug abuse with attention to prescription and OTC drugs in addition to illicit drugs. The various drugs will be described according to: forms used, how used, how obtained, populations who use, signs and symptoms of use, mental/emotional effects, physical/toxic/withdrawal effects, as well as treatment and prevention strategies. The roles of both the internet and new developments in medication assisted therapy in these current trends will also be discussed.
