This event is over.

The Harlem Quartet, founded in 2006, shows diversity in music as they engage new audiences with their repertoire ranging from classical and jazz compositions to works by minority composers. This young string ensemble is fast becoming a dynamic and vibrant voice in the world of touring musicians.

Based in New York City, the ensemble has performed throughout the U.S. as well as France, the U.K., Belgium, Panama, Canada, and South Africa. They have collaborated with other distinguished performers, including 1989 Helwig Distinguished Artist Itzhak Perlman, Ida Kavafian, Carter Brey, Fred Sherry, Misha Dichter, Jeremy Denk, and Paquito D'Rivera.

Separately, each ensemble member has appeared in orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, National, Utah, Puerto Rico, Juilliard, New World, and Pittsburgh symphony orchestras.

With its original mission working to bring music to inner-city school children, this group has also been featured regularly at jazz festivals around the world, including the Panama Jazz Festival in Panama City, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and the Miami Nice Jazz Festival. They have performed for many dignitaries, including President and Mrs. Obama followed by a tour of South Africa in 2012.

Harlem Quartet's most recent recording, Hot House, with jazz master Chick Corea and percussionist Gary Burton, was a 2013 multi-Grammy Award winner. They are recognized as bringing a new attitude to classical music—one that is fresh, bracing, and intelligent.
