Pablo Ziegler Classical Tango Quartet

This event is over.

With Tango y Misterio, Buenos Aires-born, Latin Grammy-winning pianist, composer, and arranger Pablo Ziegler brings the rich Argentine musical tradition of New Tango into a chamber music setting with exquisite arrangements of his own compositions, as well as the music of tango legends like Ángel Villoldo, Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, and Ástor Piazzolla.

A consummate ensemble featuring piano, bandoneon, cello, and double bass, Ziegler's quartet breathes with nuance and refinement, at once subtle and utterly expressive. Writes Ken Herman for San Diego Story, “[Ziegler's quartet] proved this Argentine music could rub shoulders with Schubert and Brahms and hold its head high.”

After a debut at the Miami International Piano Festival in 2009, the Quartet has headlined major engagements, including the La Jolla SummerFest, the Laguna Beach Music Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, and Brandeis University.

In 2011, Ziegler's work as music director, arranger, and pianist for bass-baritone opera star Erwin Schrott earned an Echo Klassik Award for the album Rojotango. His 2005 release, Bajo Cero, won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tango Album, and, in 2008, his album Buenos Aires Report made the final list of nominees for the same honor.

Tickets are priced at $26 (regular), $22 (discount for senior citizens and groups of 15 or more), and $14 (I-Card holder, students, and children).
