Wednesday, March 21

Fast Feet: India Jazz Suites

2:45-3:45 p.m., IUP Performing Arts Center, Rehearsal Studio (second floor)

A joint dance class presented by Pandit Chitresh Das and Jason Samuels Smith on traditional India Kathak and American tap dance. This exciting clinic will benefit high school and college-age dancers as the two principal dancers of India Jazz Suites explore their respective dance forms and how they blend them into India Jazz Suites.

Thursday, March 22

10:00-11:00 a.m., Performing Arts Center, Fisher Auditorium

A matinee lecture/demonstration and performance by India Jazz Suites, this educational opportunity is presented in partnership with the Indiana Arts Council for regional school students in grades 6-10. It features both India Jazz Suites dancers as they talk about their dance forms, perform excerpts from their upcoming Friday evening performance, and take questions from attending students. Attending teachers and students are invited view the India Jazz Suites Study Guide. This study guide (a pdf file) was prepared by Dance Affiliates in Philadelphia specifically for this event.

2:45-3:45 p.m., IUP Performing Arts Center, Rehearsal Studio (second floor)

A joint dance class presented by Pandit Chitresh Das and Jason Samuels Smith on the popular style of India dance, including the stye made famous in many films made in India's "Bollywoood." This clinic will benefit high school and college-age dancers as they learn the steps, history, and intricacies of various traditional dance forms and connections to modern styles.

The three events are in advance of the Ovations! presentation of Fast Feet: India Jazz Suites at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium on Friday, March 23.
