Tuesday, February 28, IUP

2:00-3:00 p.m., Cogswell Hall, Olmstead Percussion Rehearsal Hall (Rm 117). Drummer and vocalist for the band Don Liuzzi presents “The Timpanist Can Sing with Stroke Variety and Phrasing.” This clinic will benefit high school and college-age percussionists and college music education majors. All musicians are welcome, and it is open to the general public and student body.

4:30-5:30 p.m., Cogswell Hall, Jazz Rehearsal Hall (Rm 116). Bassist for the band Kevin MacConnell presents “Fundamentals of Constructing Bass Lines and Improvising in American Popular Music.” This clinic will benefit high school and college-age bass players and college music education majors. All musicians are welcome, and it is open to the general public and student body.

4:30-5:30 p.m., Gorell Recital Hall (seciond floor, Sutton Hall). Violinists Jason Depue and Wallace Depue will facilitate this masterclass of IUP violin students. This masterclass will benefit high school and college-age string players and college Music Education majors. All musicians are welcome.

Wednesday, February 29, Indiana Area Senior High School

1:00-1:45 p.m., Indiana High School Band Room. The full DePue Brothers Band will present a group clinic to all music students. The repertoire includes styles such as classical, bluegrass, and rock and will be used to explore how the band plays together, rehearses, writes out arrangements, and balances the various instruments and voices.

1:45-2:30 p.m., Indiana High School, Various Rooms. Violinist Wallace DePue will present “Fiddling Tunes Exploration and their Origins,” guitar player Mark Cosgrove will present “The Flat-picking Guitar Style-an Overview,” and violinist Jason DePue will present a joint topic workshop, “Bach to Paganini and Practice Habits.”

This class is in advance of the Ovations! concert being presented February 29, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall. Please note that this is a venue change from Fisher Auditorium.
