Journalism and public relations majors at IUP are selected annually during the spring semester to be the recipient of the David A. Schwartz Memorial Scholarship award. The recipient receives the award, which is split between the following fall and spring semesters.
Journalism and public relations majors who will be juniors or seniors are eligible. The recipient must show promise in any field of journalism and public relations, display strong interest, and demonstrate potential for future success and community service.
The amount of the scholarship award varies from year to year.
The David A. Schwartz Memorial Journalism Scholarship was established in 1979 for the purpose of awarding scholarship grants to worthy journalism students at IUP in keeping with the high personal and professional standards set by David A. Schwartz, the young journalist for whom the award is named.
The scholarship was established through the generous contributions of Allen and Dorothy Schwartz, parents of David A. Schwartz, of Lebanon, Pa., the publishers of the Indiana Gazette, and many friends on campus as well as in the larger Indiana community.
