Laurie
Miller spent more than two decades as a newspaper journalist before becoming
an educator.
Awarded a full-tuition scholarship from the
Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, she earned her bachelor’s degree in
journalism and communications at Point Park College in Pittsburgh; she later
returned to Point Park University for her master’s degree. She worked as a
newspaper reporter, photographer and editor before earning her doctorate in
English literary criticism at IUP.
Miller, who
has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, brings her
professional and academic experience into the classroom, where she engages
students in hands-on, skills-based instruction in journalistic principles and
practices.
Miller is a
member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication
and its Newspaper and Online News Division. She is also a member of the
American Copy Editors Society.
A bicycling
enthusiast, Miller is a member of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and the Yough
River Trail Council. She also enjoys swimming and kayaking.
